‘Tarraingíonn Scéal Scéal Eile (One Story Leads to Another)’ is an image-text work which uses the photobook as an object to visually tell stories of Irish folklore and mythology, particularly focusing on fables which are set in, and attached to, the landscape. It does this whilst challenging the current lives of mythology and folklore, and questions their relationship with contemporary audiences within a modern, scientific, capitalist society.
Combating this new world of folklore, where much of the lyricality and constant change found within traditional Irish oral storytelling has been lost to commodifying age-old tales for commercial profit, ‘Tarraingíonn Scéal Scéal Eile’ attempts to create an interactive, engaging photobook that prompts the reader to take on an important role in the storytelling process. It asks the reader to move with the work; up and down, left and right, in and out, interacting with the accordion style binding to journey through the three 24-page photobooks within.
